SUSTAINABILITY
OUR GOALS
As a pivotal player in the aluminium sector in Southeastern Europe, Aluminij Industries is steadfast in its commitment to sustainability. Through our strategic sustainability framework, we recognize the potential to make a difference by advancing the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
Prior to employment, periodic and emergency medical examinations of employees are carried out regularly according to the Risk Assessment Act.
In 2023, a contract was signed with a Doctor of Occupational Medicine from an authorized health institution, engaging in the Occupational Safety Committee meetings in an advisory role.
QUALITY EDUCATION
We strive to contribute to equal access for all to quality, technical and vocational training, as well as access to higher education.
We also contribute to increasing the number of young people and adults who have technical and professional skills, for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship.
GENDER EQUALITY
Ensuring women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in the organization.
CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION
Contribution to increasing the efficiency of water use and sustainable withdrawal and supply of fresh water, by implementing an advanced system powered by frequency converters.
Contributing to improving water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing the release of hazardous chemicals and materials.
AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY
The share of renewable sources of electricity in the total final consumption of electricity is 100%, which we confirm with a Guarantee of Origin of every megawatt hour of electricity used.
Contributing to the improvement of energy efficiency, with equipment upgrades in the production process.
INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE
We contribute to the upgrading of infrastructure and industry to become sustainable, with increased resource efficiency and greater adoption of clean and environmentally friendly technologies and industrial processes.
RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION
We contribute to substantially reducing waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse. Our ULTIMATE series of billets have high amount of recycled content.
LIFE ON LAND
Contribution to protecting natural habitats and prevent the loss of biodiversity.

MOTIVATION FOR CIRCULARITY
Up to 95% less energy consumption compared to primary smelting,
Compliance with environmental goals,
Lower carbon footprint of products,
Better traceability,
Competitiveness on the market in low-carbon products series,
Positive forecast for the amount of post-consumer aluminum available for recycling (reaching 6.6 million tons in 2023).
Renewable energy
Renewable energy is a central pillar of Aluminij's broader decarbonisation strategy. The Herzegovina region offers some of the most favourable solar conditions in Europe, with Mostar averaging over 2,290 hours of sunshine annually and horizontal irradiance ranging from 1,300 to 1,550 kWh/m² across the area — conditions that make on-site solar generation both practical and commercially attractive.
Aluminij is currently developing a rooftop photovoltaic project at its Mostar facility, which will supply renewable electricity directly to Cast House operations and reduce the carbon intensity of its electricity consumption. The project is designed to move from approval to commissioning rapidly.
Beyond this initial phase, Aluminij holds substantial land suitable for further solar development and continues to engage with renewable energy projects across the country and the wider region - including solar, wind, and hydropower - with the objective of progressively growing its renewable portfolio. The site's existing power infrastructure, including two independent 220 kV grid connections with a combined capacity of approximately 400 MW, provides a strong foundation for integrating additional renewable supply as the company's operational footprint expands.
